Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! Psalm 33:12 ESV
Since February, this nation has been engaged in a deadly battle against COVID-19. To date, over 177,000 people have died from the pandemic. After yet another shooting of an African American man in Wisconsin last night, social unrest is about to get even worst. In the meantime, we are about to have a contentious national election that may result in national civil unrest, and according to some experts, civil war.
This nation is as polarized as it was during the civil war (1861-1865). With millions of people unemployed and an economy sinking deeper into recession, many people are scared and wondering how much worst are things going to get. If there is ever a time when we need the Lord, we need him now.
Prayer warriors should come together to send an SOS to the Lord in prayer. Our nation is on the brink of a socio-political catastrophe. We need the Shalom of God to keep this union intact. The nation is on the brink of a medical calamity with this pandemic. We need Jehovah Rohe (The Lord our healer) to come to our rescue. With more than 50 million people unemployed, we need Jehovah Jireh (The Lord your provider) to supply the needs of the millions without health care, and no money to purchase food and pay their bills.
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12). If God’s people who are called by his name, do not humble themselves, pray and seek his presence, and turn from their wicked ways, this nation will end up like the Roman Empire, or the Babylonian Empire. It will be broken up into many smaller nation-states with no influence on the world stage.
For the last fifty years, the Lord has been warning the US to return to him. Yet, the majority of the people in this nation have been mesmerized by the wealth and power of the US. Instead of running to God the majority have created idols and continue to worship false gods. Instead of transforming into a nation whose God is the Lord, we have embraced the demagoguery of cultic leaders.
Unfortunately, this nation is on the brink of divine reckoning. God is no longer remaining idle as we turn our backs on him. God is using this season to compel the Church in the US to take an introspective look at itself and see if their vision is aligned with God’s plan for his Church. He is frustrating the normal operation of civil society so we can consider our ways and make amend for our disobedience.
Because of the disobedience of the Israelites, God gave them away to Babylonian captivity for seventy years. This nation is on the brink of captivity for one hundred years, if we do not repent and return to God. The Spirit of the Lord is warning there will be a lot of weeping and gnashing of teeth during those hundred years.
As Jeremiah wept over Jerusalem, I weep for this nation and for what is to come. This is an opportune time for the Church of Jesus Christ to lead a revival so we can preempt the incoming devastation upon this nation. We need a great spiritual awakening to spread like wildfire throughout the land. Then God will hear from heaven, he will forgive our sins and heal the land.
Prayer- Blessed Lord, have mercy upon this nation, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out our transgression (Psalm 51:1).
