Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8
I read a story this morning about the lead singer of a Christian band who wrote a letter to say that he no longer believes in God. This man grew up in a Christian home, and his father was a pastor. He said that though his Christian faith has defined his life, he now realizes that God does not exist. The other members of the band are supporting him through his faith crisis. However, they made it clear that disbelief does not change the truth about God's existence. Many people are questioning the truth about God because more than one hundred thousand people have died from COVID-19. Some have rejected the existence of God, and the idea of a loving God, altogether. They cannot accept that a loving God would allow so many people to die around the world. A large number of millennials and Generation Z’ers are struggling with the truth about God. Even some who grew up in Christian homes have become functional atheists. They are seduced by the relativism of this ungodly age and rejecting the faith of their parents. Many are using science and technology as their gods and disavowing the Christ who died to save them, and the God who created them. God’s truth cannot and will not be changed regardless of the prevailing indifference to it by so many in this day and age. The Church has to do more to help the faithful and those that are struggling in their Christian journey to keep the faith. Local churches need to do more to help people stay connected. Churches need to launch a campaign to encourage those who no longer believe in God to take a second look at Jesus. Indeed, there should be support groups for those who are losing their faith in God all across this nation. In today’s text, the writer reminds believers that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. The truth about Jesus is not going to change. Whereas the presentation of that truth may differ in a different socio-cultural context, the content of that truth will never change. The debate about creation has been raging for many decades. Yet the truth about God as the creator of the world will not change no matter what theory is presented by some in the science community. God is the creator and sustainer of all things. Whether one agrees with the creation story in the Bible or not is not going to change the fact that the Almighty created the world. Here is another truth that cannot be changed! Heaven and hell are real, and we each have a soul to save. The truth about salvation through Jesus Christ cannot be changed. God’s love for humanity will never change. His amazing grace and mercy cannot change. They are renewed every morning. For my brothers and sisters that have lost faith in God, allow me to encourage you not to lean on your own understanding. Our lack of understanding about God cannot change the truth about God. Spend time in prayer and meditation so you can have an encounter with the Almighty. If you are still holding on to your faith in God, I want to encourage you to keep the faith. God’s truth will nurture your faith and sustain you during these difficult times. Prayer- Blessed Lord, please help those that are struggling in their faith in you. May those who deny your existence have an encounter with you so they can be transformed by your love, in Jesus’ name!
